"Tchao-Ou-Niang" in LUTE SONG
at the Berkshire Theatre Festival
How exciting to work
with director Marge Champion on this 1940's musical. The role I played was
originated by Mary Martin, as a Ming Dynasty Chinese woman. (Times have changed!)
On opening night I got to meet Helen Hayes- what a thrill!

The polished gem in the production is Christine Toy Johnson...a strikingly beautiful actress with a singing voice to match....it is a performance unmatched by any other cast member.

gives Lute Song a vocal beauty and a soul. - The Hartford
Christine Toy Johnson is worth the price of admission. She miraculously treats her lines and songs with such dignity and craft one instantly respects her and everything she says and does. A rare talent, Ms. Johnson stands out and above the rest.
